This weeks mystery came from our recent outing to Robin Moore's Salamatoto site.  We found prehistoric sherds, majolica, and more modern porcelain.

One of the sherds, we believe majolica, featured this interesting, handpainted, blue wheat motif.

Any guesses?

WHAT IS IT?!?!?!?

One Response so far.

  1. We had a response on Twitter from @archaeologist asking if our readers were aware of the digital type collection on the Florida Museum of Natural History's website: http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/histarch/gallery_types/

He also put forth a guess the sherd is San Augustin blue on white. Not sure...the lines look more fine to me, and more wheat like than the thick flourish seen on the type collection pic (http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/histarch/gallery_types/type_index_display.asp?type_name=SAN AGUSTIN BLUE ON WHITE)

    Could be. Any more guesses?
