No Hands! But Timucuan Technology Abides

School is back in session (ready or not!)  We have missed seeing the kids and doing in-school programs for the past year, plus some.  Covid-19, and now the Delta variant, have put a temporary hold on FPAN's in-person programming.  We have done some zoom (Lots of zooms!) but we miss the hands-on, LITERALLY!

We miss the grabby hands around the replicas table, the sweaty hands reaching out for the deer skin drum, and the impatient hands raised high with bursting questions.  We miss all the hands!

Taking turns to bang the deer skin drum replica

We hope to be back in the classroom soon, but in the meantime, we want to remind teachers and parents of the Timucuan Technologies website that hosts free downloads of 10 lessons. This educational tool was one of FPAN's responses to the need for programming at the state's 500th anniversary and St. Augustine's 450th birthday.  (If you want to read more about the origins, check out FPAN's 2012 blog about Timucuan Tech's release).

A lot of the classroom programs we provide are based on lessons from Timucuan Technologies and can be easily recreated anywhere.  Below are examples of just a few of the lessons "in action"!

PYROTECHNOLOGY (Fire!)

ANIMAL TECHNOLOGY (Fishing!)

TOOL MAKING TECHNOLOGY (Pottery!)

Timucuan Technologies materials are targeted to middle school aged students but can be easily adapted to any age (7 - 70)!   So, if you are a teacher or parent, or anyone interested in learning more about Florida's rich prehistoric past, we invite you to check out this educational and fun resource.
