"The Puente House" Has Been Marked

We will soon be welcoming a new historic marker to our fair city of St. Augustine!  "The Puente House" historic marker is totally sponsored (funded, written and created) by the St. Augustine Archaeology Association (SAAA).

The signs cost around $1,200.  Once SAAA treasury sees that the marker fund is getting close to its goal, they alert the SAAA Marker Committee to start scouting out a worthy site.  On average, this  happens every 2 - 3 years.  So, we have some time to be thinking about the next location!  If you have any ideas for the future markers, the SAAA board is open for suggestions.

According to their latest newsletter, "previous sites for which SAAA has produced markers are the La Punta Mission on Tremerton Street, La Solidad Church on Aviles Street, The Old Boat Basin near the Bridge of Lions, and the original Lighthouse near the boat ramp and Yacht Club at Lighthouse Park."  So, while you're driving around town, keep an eye out for these slices of history.

Be on the lookout for an announcement of "The Puente House" Historic Marker's official unveiling. To be coming soon....
