Cover photo from Oakdale Cemetery Facebook Page.

Oakdale Cemetery is located just west of downtown DeLand in Volusia County.  Just when you think you've seen all you think you can see, there is a whole other section across Adelle Avenue.  See if you can find one of my favorites, a two-sided headstone belonging to Richard Bass with, "I really was a nice guy," inscribed on the back.

Who: Managed and owned by Oakdale Cemetery Association.
What: Large, well-manicured park with variety of monuments, headstones, and plantings
Where: 800 N. Clara Ave, DeLand, FL 32720   Link to Google Map
When:  Open dusk till dawn 365 days a year, office open 9 am to noon Monday-Friday.
 Why:
  •  Opened in 1892.
  •  One of the largest cemeteries in Volusia County with over 15,000 graves and counting.
  • Pay homage to the "Citrus Wizzard" Lue Gim Gong (d. 1925)
  • Location of FPAN CRPT hands-on session, October 2013
Site manager Wilma McDonough shows records back to late 1800s.
